Filip Periac

Filip is an artist from Croatia, specialising in illustration, graphics and drawing.

Again he is another artist of which I prefer his sketches and drawings rather than the commercial work which I will not present here.

I like these sketches because of the scribbly technique which reminds me very much of my own sketches. I especially like the panorma-style spread of the first drawing of a train carriage (presumably reportage). The drawings have a very loose, fluid feel which gives them a more character than a rigid line drawing.

These were some illustrations comissioned by Bill magazine which is published quartlery and is based around advertising. A quote from the art director of the magazine explains why he was comissioned:
"A Ethereal line, smoky but descriptive simultaneously. His Illustrations are rapid and penetrating. They look like taken by a travel notebook. Those with whom the time stops. And this is what we needed for Bill magazine. When we visited Filip’s website, we decided immediately to commision him some portraits for the new issue.
And to this day, we have not stopped." — Franz Degano / Bill magazine Art Director

I think that Degano has described Filip's work perfectly. I also think my own sketches possess some of these qualities- mainly the smoky linework and 'travel notebook' look.
